What a week!

Hello again!
Since I last wrote, I finished up the first week of classes.  I'm pretty happy with my schedule this
semester. A lot of reading though! Out of my six classes, I have 3 literature classes, so I always have something to read and write about.

Over the weekend, my girlfriend Megan and I drove down to Pittsburgh to visit the Andy Warhol
museum.  If you haven't been there, I highly recommend checking it out sometime, even if you aren't
an art fan.  It's a really interesting place to go and spend an afternoon. It's pretty convenient that Pittsburgh is so close that we can be there in a little over an hour.
Meg and I might go back in March when the UAB goes to visit the museum and the Philips
conservatory.

That's the cloud room. Easily one of the coolest rooms in the museum.

On Tuesday, there was the poster sale that usually happens once a semester.
My room was looking pretty bare, so I bought a couple awesome posters for cheap! Also on Tuesday was the Martin Luther King Jr. Series program, Black.White. If you haven't seen the show, it documented two families, one black and one white, that lived together. They also were done in make-up to look like the opposite race. They then went into society to see how the different races were treated. The program on campus was great, as the two fathers on the show came and spoke of their experiences and about race relations.

That's about it for this week. Check back again soon!

First day of classes!

Today was the first day of Spring Semester 2007!

It is such an adjustment to go back to class after spending a month at home. After working all through the fall and getting into a groove, classes end and everyone goes home for break. Once you finally get settled back in at home, it is time to go back to school. I had a lot of fun this break, the highlight of which was going on a school trip to Times Square on New Year's Eve. I miss my family at home already, but it is nice to be back among my friends at school.

I only had two classes today, which were Intro to English Studies and American Contemporary Literature. Both seem like they will be interesting and a lot of fun. Tomorrow will be significantly busier, as I have 4 classes, Linguistics, Humanities II, Bowling, and Images of Women in Literature. I am most excited for bowling, of course. Who doesn't want to learn the proper form and technique of bowling?

Not much on the agenda for tonight...I have a few poems and readings to do for Intro to English Studies and for Contemporary American Literature. I also have a FMLA meeting, which should prove to be quite interesting. The Penguins also play the NY Islanders tonight. Let's go Pens!

More later in the week,
Mike
